The name of Osman Karakas was included in the scientific research and study titled "Turkish-American Immigrants" conducted by two faculty members at Portland College in the United States. In the "Turkish-Americans" section of the study, Osman Karakas was recognized as one of the five Turks who have made the most contributions to the Turkish community in the United States. The study highlighted Karakaş's activities in the United States, his professional journalism career, and his award-winning achievements. The other Turks mentioned were Ahmet Ertegün, Tunç Yalman, Esin Atıl, and Feza Gürsoy.

The head of the jury of the POY Contest said that they compared Karakaş's photo with one of Michelangelo's famous artworks, 'Pieta'.

Osman Karakaş stood out in the 48th edition of the largest News Photography Competition in the U.S. by winning the first-place award, surpassing approximately 35,000 entries. Following the competition, the Jury President was asked to comment on the features that led to Osman Karakaş's photograph being chosen as the winner. The Jury President noted the ideal use of composition and light in Karakaş's photo and mentioned that they compared Karakaş's photograph to Michelangelo's famous sculpture, 'Pieta.' Without a doubt, these words and the comparison were another significant reward for Karakaş.
